Mrs. HM Is NOT Broke As A Joke

Yesterday I had a bit of good luck. I earned back money that keeps getting away from me at the casino! Of course, it took a scratcher to get it back.

That's a $5 ticket. I won every prize. You have to match both symbols in a row, or get a special symbol in the first one. Like the candy cane. It tells you at the bottom of the ticket. Anyhoo...that $5 ticket won me $100. I had some other winners, too, but none that dramatic. I stashed that cash today for my next casino trip. Money doesn't grow on trees, you know!

While I was in the gas station chicken store cashing this one in, a man came in to pay for gas. The Lady Owner was ringing up his purchase, and said, "Oh, you're a long way from home."

"Yes. We've been on the road for six hours now. We're headed to Little Rock for a funeral."

The Lady Owner offered her condolences, and the customer asked if there was a good restaurant around here. She referred him to the buffet over by Save A Lot, and gave him directions.

As I drove home, while passing in front of that restaurant, the song "Little Rock," by Collin Raye, came on my radio. I haven't heard that song in years.

Funny how The Universe plays these little jokes.

  1. HM--Yeah, the universe works in mysterious ways. You win on a regular basis. I've never won at lottery tickets or at the casino. However, I've only bought a few tickets in my life, and only gambled at a casino once...

  2. Money may not grow on trees, but it DOES seem to grow on your lottery tickets!!

  3. Sioux,
Even though I go through slumps of not winning, my luck always returns. Farmer H has bought more lottery tickets than you, but he's only won a couple of times, and that was $5. He has been leaving the casino with a profit lately. So I'd say The Universe is definitely a jokester, thumbing its nose at Mrs. Hillbilly Mom.

    fishducky,
I have a scratching green thumb, I suppose, because my crop of winnings has been thriving.

  4. I'm so green with envy I'm practically glowing. I did win $15.45 in the mega millions lotto draw on Tuesday though. Enough to put on another ticket for next week.

  5. River,
Sorry to make you green! $15.45 is pretty good. I NEVER win on the draw games. I think the most I ever won was $7 on PowerBall. I've played MegaMillions here, but didn't win anything. If the jackpot gets really high, like in the 100 million range, I'll buy a ticket sometimes if I remember.

  6. Wouldn't you be happy winning a mere 50 million?

  7. fishducky,
I wouldn't turn it down...but that's TOO much! Even after taxes, too many people would come begging for a cut. I live a comfortable, though not extravagant, life. I like the THOUGHT of winning every time I scratch a ticket. My dream would be winning just enough jackpot to invest and live off the proceeds, thus saving my savings to be inherited when I'm gone.
