A Fresh Coat

I put a new coat of color on my lovely lady mullet Saturday morning. It's no secret that Mrs. HM is no stranger to L'Oreal. In fact, she's been a regular customer since she turned mid-thirties, even though she could have started earlier. It's a genetic thing, I prefer to believe. We don't lose our hair, but we do go gray early.

Here's the thing about teaching. The students are SO helpful! "Hey! You have a gray hair! You should pull that out. No if she pulls it out, she'll get ten more! I think she already pulled one out! Yep! You're going gray! Hey, look! Mrs. Hillbilly Mom has gray hair!" Yeah. So helpful. Just ask the teachers who are balding...

Anyhoo...I put a fresh coat of Medium Brown on my tresses. I really need a haircut before we go see The Pony this week. Because right now, I kind of look like David Cassidy in his Partridge Family years. Not as lean, and I don't have the puka shell necklace. But the hairstyle is kind of the same.

Farmer H says I might as well let it go all the way gray. I'm not ready for that yet. I'm no Emmylou Harris. What does HE know, anyway, about hair?

  1. I stopped coloring my hair 4 or 5 years ago & I'm only about halfway grey!!

  2. fishducky,
I have a feeling mine would go all gray overnight, once I declared I was DONE with it, and didn't have a box of L'Oreal in the Mansion.

At least it would be a stunning silver gray, like my grandma. It positively glows in her Glamour Shots photo that's hanging over my mom's old piano in the hall by The Pony's room. We couldn't hang Grandma over her own piano, which is in the basement at the end of the pool table, on the wall against Farmer H's workshop. That just wouldn't be right.

  3. I had the David Cassidy look when I was 22, for some reason the curls and waves straightened themselves out temporarily after my son was born. There's a photo somewhere...
I stopped colouring my hair about twelve years ago and it still has a lot of natural colour in among the grey, which is whiter around the face, but I quite like it and wouldn't go back to colouring. I never bothered with any other treatments either. No perms, no hot air dryers, just shampoo and conditioner, then let it dry by itself.

  4. River,
I do nothing to my hair besides shampoo and let it dry. Aside from the color, of course. I guess I'm too vain!

If we were musical, we could start a David Cassidy cover band, and go on tour. I could open for our own act, with a stand-up routine! I sometimes miss my captive audience of students...

  5. It's a good thing we're NOT musical, nobody needs to hear those songs again, in my opinion. They were okay then, but far too twee now.
