Imagine my surprise on Tuesday, when I turned onto the approach road to The Devil's Playground, and saw THIS up against the front wall:
Sweet Gummi Mary! The temperature was 62 degrees, with 49 shopping days still left before Christmas! The aisle that held Halloween candy less than a week ago was FILLED WITH CHRISTMAS CANDY!
Anybody remember the good old days, when Christmas decorations didn't come out until after Thanksgiving?
That's why I like online shopping!!
ReplyDeletefishducky,
ReplyDeleteI do too! In fact, I have my list, but I still need to check it twice. I have to get things ready earlier this year, because Genius says he isn't coming home, and that I can bring his gifts to the hotel for our CasinoPalooza 3 rendezvous, which is planned for mid-December.
The SiriusXM radio stations have already gone Christmas. About 10-15 of them. I have not listened yet, but they make sure to advertise that fact.
I remember my early childhood when the stores didn't decorate or stock Christmas things until December 1st. I don't remember when that changed, but I do know it happens far too early now. One reason is that it gives poor people more time to buy those Christmas essentials in the weeks leading up to Christmas. If they're anything like me, they don't need the extra time because I start saving for Christmas cash in January.
ReplyDeleteRiver,
ReplyDeleteI never thought about it being a "favor" from the stores to the people who needed more time for their purchases. I assumed it was the greed of the stores, like putting out Halloween candy right after our Labor Day the first Monday of September...because they know we'll buy the candy when we see it, and EAT it, and have to buy more to hand out at Halloween!
I, too, start setting money back in January to use for Christmas. A little each week, and then the holiday is paid for by the time it arrives. I also have another stash for property tax time in November.
