Hello Pinwheel, My Old Friend, I've Come To Feast With You Again

I've been holding out on you! Keeping you in the dark! Not-feeding you pinwheels!

Remember how I used to love my pinwheels for lunch? Back when I got them at The Devil's Playground? Sweet Gummi Mary! I hadn't feasted on a pinwheel in a coon's age! Not since way before Stay-At-Home-Down. As you may recall, The Devil first switched up the packaging, from six pinwheels to four. THEN started having shortages of my favorite, the chicken/bacon/ranch. And THEN they disappeared from the deli section altogether.

Well. Since Country Mart was bought out by Harp's in July, they've switched a few of their pre-packaged deli products. A couple weeks ago, I found PINWHEELS! The Pony and I enjoyed them immensely. I, more than The Pony, because I'm immenser, with an ampler rumpus. Last week there were none to be found. But Monday, I nabbed three containers. I would have taken the last one as well, but it had a USE BY date of Oct 18, and it was Oct 19 as I was standing there reading it.

Anyhoo... while I was happy to purchase some pinwheels, I was sad to see signs of the imminent decline of THESE pinwheels, too. I even warned The Pony when he trotted out to be my beast of burden:

"I found PINWHEELS! But there's a little quality control issue."

Yes, there's one that's a bit lacking in substance. But that's not the only issue.

The two in the middle row are GIANTS! Or else the four on the ends are MINIATURES.

Oh, one package was completely normal. And the third one had a couple pinwheels that were basically just tortilla wrap and lettuce. Maybe a scrap of turkey. These seem to have turkey, ham, white cheese, yellow cheese, tomato, and lettuce. With a bit of cream cheese spread on the outer layer to hold the tortilla together.

I must say, they are delicious with a side of green olives. I will be feasting on them until their most likely upcoming demise.

  1. Oh Snap! I'm just now listening to Sounds of Silence, but the one by Disturbed not the Simon and Garfunkel one.
The pinwheel pack looks like it is for a family, two large ones for the parents and four mini ones for the kids. As long as they aren't hearty eaters.

  2. If you're thinking you will get some favorable, complimentary comments on your post, will you be disappointed with the sound of silence?

I think the "owner-employees" are sampling those pinwheels. Perhaps that is the only return they're getting on their investment--a nibble of ham here, a square of cheese there.

  3. River,
I have allowed The Pony to choose this pack for his very own. I think we referred to it as the pack with the twin towers. I might throw out my shoulder lifting one of those behemoths to my mouth!

Even Steven and The Universe love to play tricks with life's rich tapestry, making our threads intertwine. It must have been a Sounds of Silence day.

BLOGGER, on the other hand, is not merely playing tricks, but is downright EVIL in the past few days. I just now saw your comment about where was your comment. I don't know! At least I got this one!

BLOGGER has been messing up my scheduled posts as well! Switching the scheduled day and time back to AUTOMATIC between the time I hit PUBLISH and CONFIRM. So I have to wrangle it back and fix the time again. AND it keeps messing with my picture spacing, and switching from NORMAL to PARAGRAPH during writing. I hate this NEW BLOGGER.

    Sioux,
You, too, had a late-arriving or held-hostage comment, Madam. Something is afoot.

IRONICALLY, I DID have the sounds of silence, until these two comments found their way here.

It would not surprise me at all if the employees have taken a nibble. These pinwheels were pristine last time. Looking as if they came in on a giant refrigerated semi, made by a hoity-toity chef. Now they look like a local job. Like somebody was hired who used to work at The Devil's Playground.
