We have already
established, have we not, that Mrs. Hillbilly Mom has a cold, cold heart? And
that in fact, it is quite possible that her heart is AWOL altogether. So the
following revelation should come as no surprise. Should not elicit a fit of
apoplexy, or a wave of outrage. Mrs. Hillbilly Mom cannot change her spots.
Yesterday on the way
home, The Pony and I saw that our local prison was again set up for an
execution. We seem to eliminate one convicted ne’er-do-well per month. No, the
prison does not have a lighted sign on wheels out front advertising the event.
They rope off a section of the grounds so reporters can broadcast with the
facility showing over their shoulder. They set up a checkpoint (yesterday with
a little white tent due to high heat on hot blacktop, I suppose) at the edge of
the parking lot. That’s because these events are invite-only, and credentials
must be checked. On the lower road, the road that the guards use to patrol the
outer edge of the razor-wire-topped chain link fence, a state highway patrol
car sits, complete with two armed officers, to keep vehicles from entering from
the county road.
I told The Pony, “I
know this is terribly inappropriate, but every time I see those guys sitting
there, I want to pump my fist as I go by, and say, ‘YES!’”
Let the record show
that the most recent recipient of justice had lived on death row for 25 years.
He confessed to being one of two men who kidnapped a 15-year-old girl from the
end of her driveway one morning as she waited for the school bus. Her mother
turned away from the door to help another child get ready, and when she looked
back, only the girl’s books and flute case were sitting on the driveway. This
despicable human being and his buddy raped and sodomized her, and stabbed her numerous times with a serrated knife while she begged for her life,
then left her in the trunk of a car for three days, until a canary sang to the
police for a $10,000 reward.
Sometimes, justice is
overdue.
When Mrs. Hillbilly
Mom reports for jury duty next week, the attorneys might want to ask her
opinion of the death penalty before making their selections.

That most-recent death penalty "taker" got off too easily and it took too many years. I hear that even prisoners have a sense of morality and justice... I hear that prisoners hate fellow prisoners who prey on children.
Perhaps they should have just let the prisoners loose on that guy--the day after he came to the prison?
Justice served. There are crimes that are too heinous to result in 25 years of room and board paid for by taxpayers...
