The Pony Had His Cake, And Ate It, Too

Last week, during our 6:00 a.m. phone call, The Pony excitedly told me that he'd found a new treat in the Sis-Town Country Mart.

"They had Zebra Cakes that are as big as my hand!!!"

"Oh. The big ones. I buy them for Dad. He has one every night. But sometimes, 10Box is out of the big ones, and I have to get the box with the regular size, two in a pack."

"What? I just found these! I didn't know they came that big! I'm sending you a picture."

I suppose the name comes from the stripes on the top of those Little Debbie Zebra Cakes. Looks like The Pony couldn't wait until he got home to sample his treat. Granted, he skips lunch and works through the 30 minutes to get off earlier. They can do that at his office, and don't get charged for the 30 minutes. So I imagine he was ravenous after shopping at the end of his shift. As you can see, he's on the parking lot of the grocery store.

Mmm. Those cakes ARE mighty delicious. I like a smaller version, namely the Birthday Cake Little Debbies. Though the box has been sitting untouched in FRIG II for two weeks, since I've been cutting back. They will have to remain there until I feel deserving of a special treat or reward.

So exciting to discover a big version of what you love! I am partial to the oatmeal cakes.

Kathy,
I am a big fan of Little Debbie! Too bad I've recently banned her from the Mansion, except for Farmer H's Zebra Cakes. I'm not tempted by them, because I know he will run out sooner, sending me back to the store. Gluttony vs Slothfulness!

That does look delicious! We don't get Little Debbie out here which is probably a good thing, but I did treat myself to a delicious "vanilla slice" doughnut from Krispy Kreme last week, while also buying a doughnut and coffee for the homeless man sitting outside. He reminded me of someone I used to know.

River,
It was "sweet" of you to treat that man to a donut and coffee. The Pony LOVES Krispy Kreme, as does Genius, but I am not a fan.

Little Debbie has such a variety of snack cakes, for a reasonable price, that they are quite popular around here. I used to sell them individually after school, for 25 or 50 cents, as a continuing fundraiser to buy things for my At-Risk classroom/students.

That was very nice of you to provide for At-Risk students.

River,
I got along well with that type of student. They tugged at my heartstrings. At the high school, I had a jar of candy on my desk, and they could select one piece every day as they came to class. It's just the little things. I paid (anonymously) for one kid's prom tickets for him and his girlfriend. Kids can't help their circumstances when they're not old enough to get a job, or don't have transportation to get there even if they could.

I saw one former student at the gas station a few years after her graduation. She said she always looked forward to my class, because it's the one place she felt like she mattered, and somebody believed in her. I especially felt pride when they graduated (some the first in their family to do so), rather than dropping out. That was the purpose of my class, the reason the school started the program.
