A Brief Extravaganza

Just a short one today. It's 2:56 a.m. as I type this, and for once, I am not feeling long-winded.

Remember the other day in the Gas Station Chicken Store, when the Woman Owner taught that impatient dude a lesson about waiting his turn to pay for his gas? We were talking about the oldest lottery ticket still available in the state of Missouri.

Woman Owner said that the GSCS, and a few others who sold a lot of the $20 scratchers, were given a chance to buy up the rest of those tickets, which still had a major prize and several upper level prizes remaining. A book of those tickets is $600. Woman Owner said they bought 10 books. According to my favorite clerk, they were selling like hotcakes!

I will admit, I bought one almost every day. As long as I had previous winnings to play on, that was my choice. I didn't think I'd hit a big winner, but I'm happy with what I won on Sunday, September 27.

That's a $100 winner! This ticket came out in 2010. That's ANCIENT for a scratcher! They are usually retired within a year, maybe two. Definitely after the major prizes are won. This CASH EXTRAVAGANZA ticket is so old (How old IS it, Mrs. Hillbilly Mom?) that it doesn't even have a bar code to scan! There's a string of numbers on the back, and then that string of numbers on the bottom here, and that 3-digit code in the box that must be typed in. Clerks hate these tickets!

Anyhoo... The Pony looked it up, saw the prizes left, and wanted me to get him a CASH EXTRAVAGANZA with some of his casino winnings.

"Okay, Pony. But you know I just won $100 on it. I don't know if they'll even be in a different book yet."

"That's okay. I'll take a chance. I just feel like I want one."

The Pony hit the symbol for an instant $100 win. Yes, it was a different book of tickets. His was number 008, and mine had been number 022. There are 30 tickets in a book.

So... I won a $100 on Sunday, and The Pony won a $100 on Monday, both on this old ticket. The Gas Station Chicken Store is out of them now. Nobody has claimed a big prize. They currently have the next-oldest ticket, which is very much like this one ( though a different color) called CASH BONANZA. You can bet we will be playing it. I bought one today, The Pony claimed he wanted it instead of the new Christmas (!) ticket he'd requested... and he won $20, his money back.

I'm pretty sure The Pony has inherited my luck.

Your song could be "Luck Be a Lady." I'm sure if you rewrote the lyrics, it would be even catchier--unlike how luck is with me.

Sioux,
Your song should be "Luck Be a Madam." That could explain your lack of winning. You're thinking of the wrong song as you buy your yearly ticket.

I agree with you about The Pony inheriting your luck. No wonder there is no luck left to go below the equator.

River,
Sorry! We are a family of luck-hogs! Even Steven has to balance out The Universe.

So, is the luck with you in buying the scratcher or in scratching the scratcher? Do the people you gift with scratchers ever win big?

Kathy,
The luck is in the buying. HOS (Farmer H's Oldest Son) has won $100 on a ticket I gave him (twice), and The Pony, Genius, and Farmer H have also won $100 at some point on their tickets at Christmas. I have not won big on a ticket gifted to me.
